The Christmas Adventure - winter magic, winter fun

Welcome to The Christmas Adventure set within the grounds of Stockeld Park, a beautiful country estate, near Wetherby and Harrogate.

From October we transform the estate into a Winter Wonderland and create a magical family Christmas, one that you and your children will remember for a long time. Ultimately we are Christmas tree growers - we grow thousands of Christmas trees. We started the Christmas Adventure to supplement our retail Christmas tree business, to be honest we were hoping that you would come to buy your Christmas tree from us.

Our first year (2006) comprised the skate rink, the Christmas shop, and the Ice Bar Cafe, and Santa's Grotto. You all seemed to enjoy it so much, that we set to thinking what else would you like for this season. Our priorities were that whatever we did, it had to be beautiful, in keeping with the beautiful surroudings, it had to be magical, and it had to be something that you as a family could truly get something from and participate in.

We have now therefore created four extra parts to the Christmas Adventure.

Firstly there is the 'Enchanted Wood'. This is a mixture of theatre and fantasy. The Enchanted Wood is illuminated with a host of superb lighting effects. As you walk round you will come across illuminated creatures of the forest, as well as stunning tableaux and enchanted figures. You cannot come to the Christmas Adventure without seeing it. Well of course you can, but we think you would regret it.

Next there is the illuminated Christmas Maze. As well as growing Christmas trees, we also grow yew trees. So we thought, why not use some of them to create a maze. And what a maze. There are over a mile of paths, and 12 gates, depicting the 12 days of Christmas which can be opened and closed in different combinations - so even if you have been before, and have a good memory, you won't find the same way in and out of the maze. The maze, which is designed in the shape of a vast snow flake, is illuminated by LED lights, and is stunning.

Thirdly, there is the Nordic Skiing Trail. What's that I hear you ask. Well, we have created a synthetic ski trail for cross country skis around our woods. Its a lot of fun. Even if you have never skied before you will quickly master the skills involved, and it will provide you with an exhilirating and satisfying experience. Experts also tell us that nordic skiing is one of the best forms of exercise there is. But don't worry, you don't have to flog yourself - you can go as fast or as slow as you choose. The circuit is 1200 metres and it is beautiful.

So as well as these new aspects to the Christmas Adventure, we have also got our enlarged eco ice rink, our Christmas shop, where you can buy Christmas gifts and decorations, our wonderful Ice Bar Cafe, and of course Santa's Grotto.

Finally, to come round in a full circle, we have our fabulous non-needle drop Christmas trees, all grown here on the Stockeld Park Estate - no imports or green miles here.
